Rafael Nadal books final place against Novak Djokovic

Rafael Nadal defeats Richard Gasquet in straight sets to face Novak Djokovic for the 37th time

Nadal was looking to keep his undefeated record at Hard Court after 20th straight victories, the Spanish had been also able to hold all his service games in this US Open in the first five games. Everything seems to be working in Nadal’s game, backhand has been very deep and aggressive, serve at great level, net-play very efficient and of course his outstanding forehand.

Gasquet came to this meeting after two exhaustive matches against Raonic and Ferrer and he trying to end a 10 victories streak from Rafa. Richard fired 52 winners against Ferrer and was playing just his second career semi-final.

The first set was a very close one, both players had a break point chance but it was Nadal who took advantage of his opportunity to claim the first one by 6 – 4.

After 73 straight holds of serve, Nadal lost his serve for the first time on this US Open, but despite that the Spanish proved to be once again the strongest player and the second set was also won by the 8 times Roland Garros champion in the tie break.

Gasquet didn’t had anything left in the third one and when serving at 2 – 5 to stay in the match with 30 – 30, the French made two double faults to give Nadal the chance to fight for his second US Open title
