WTA Seoul – Update

Julia Goerges cruises into second round while Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has to recover from a set down

Julia Goerges is not having a good summer so far, with a 1 – 9 record the German is trying to find her best tennis. Goerges faced Misako Doi from Japan. The 22 years old Japanese is a good baseline solid player with aggressive groundstrokes and this would be a big test for Julia. Goerges responded with a good performance winning 6 – 3 7 – 5, but what was more impressive was her serve, Julia won 80% first serve points and got 60% first serves in. She’ll face in the next round the winners of the match between Irina-Camelia Begu and Xinyun Han.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the third seed at Seoul where she is looking for third season title. She would face in the first round Anabel Medina Garrigues for the second time in her carrer, the previous match was won by the Russian at Linz Hard Courts Indoor 6 – 4 2 – 6 6 – 3. This was expected to be an easier match for Pavlyuchenkova, but the Russian had to recover from a set down after dropping the first 5 – 7. Anastasia fought back and played more aggressive to take this in three sets 5 – 7 6 – 2 6 – 3.
