US Open Day 8 – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s preview

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be in action this Monday. The two players will meet in the quarter-finals in case of victory today

Roger Federer vs Tommy Robredo

The five times champion Roger Federer is looking to reach the quarter-finals for the 10th straight year and set a possible clash with Rafael Nadal. Federer has been at very good level in this tournament with three good victories over Grega Zemlja, Carlos Berlocq and Adrian Mannarino.
This will be the 11th meeting between Federer and Robredo, the Suisse won the 10 previous meetings, only losing three sets in those matches. Tommy has played some good tennis this year and this is his 10th appearance in the US Open 4th round, however the Spanish never went further in the competition. Robredo’s last game was very tough against Daniel Evans with a 4 sets victory (7 – 6 6 – 1 4 – 6 7 – 5), the British wasn’t able to take advantage of Tommy’s physical difficulties and lost a 5 – 4 lead on serve in the 4th set.
Robredo’s game is all about his fight and determination, but the Spanish may not be at 100% and against Federer that will be fatal for him. I expect a good victory from Roger in straight sets

Rafael Nadal vs Philipp Kohlschreiber

Rafael Nadal is playing some of the best tennis on Hard Court of his career this season with an amazing 18 – 0 record.  The Spanish hasn’t been broken so far in this competition and in the last round he pulled off a great performance to beat Ivan Dodig in straight sets, the Croatian is playing very good this season, but Nadal produced excellent tennis and only allowed Dodig to win 48% points around the net.
Kohlschreiber claimed a victory in the third round against John Isner, like it happened last year. “Kohli” is a very talented player with a great one handed backhand but Nadal knows how to play against one handed backhand players like Roger Federer. “Rafa” leads the head to head by 9 – 1 and I predict another victory from the 2010 champion. Kohlschreiber’s backhand will have to deal with the heavy top spin from Nadal’s forehand and that will be the key for his success.
Nadal is playing unbelievable tennis and should win this match in three sets
