Victoria Azarenka looks for vengeance after last year’s defeat

Victoria Azarenka vs Serena Williams – US Open 2013 final preview

After being so close last year, Victoria Azarenka has a second chance to claim the US Open title against Serena Williams. The Belarusian had a 5 – 3 lead in the third set, but allowed a 4 games run from Serena.
Serena has been at an outstanding level in this US Open losing only 16 games in her six games. She faced Na Li in the semi-final and this was expected to be a very tough match, however Li made a very poor performance only getting 8 winners and was crushed 0 – 6 3 – 6 by the World No. 1.

Azarenka already lost two sets in this competition against Alize Cornet and Ana Ivanovic. Even so, Vika is a pure fighter and she always raises her level when is needed. After the victory against Pennetta the World No. 2 said about the match with Serena: “It’s all about who wants more at the end and fighting for every ball”.

This should be a very interesting match, despite Serena’s huge performance so far, Azarenka has shown she has what it take to beat Serena on Hard Court like she did this year at Doha and Cincinnati. Vika’s consistency, defensive skills and aggressive baseline play can create a lot of problems to Williams and I expect a very fiery contest decided in only three sets and I wouldn’t be surprise if Azarenka claims her first US Open title.
